Jack and I went outside in the backyard this afternoon to enjoy the beautiful day. We looked, but couldn't find a cloud in the sky.
Often times as I watch Jack explore and play I think, "Oh, he's such a boy." But then I get thinking about how I have no idea whether what he's doing is characteristic of all 9 month old babies or whether it's really just a boy thing or maybe it's just a Jack thing. Then I start to think about how cool it would be to have boy/girl twins just to see the differences in personalities. I start to wonder, "are little girls this noisy? Do they get as many bumps and scrapes?"
Are they this mischievous?
Do little girls get this much joy out of a stick?
Are they this enthralled with dirt?
Are they this curious about figuring out how EVERYTHING works?
Do they wiggle this much?
Are they THIS cute???
Do they melt their mama's hearts this much?
I think not. But I guess the only way to really find out is to get me one of the female ones... maybe in a few years. But I won't complain if Jack gets a brother before he gets a sister.
P.S. No offense to anyone who has a little girl or who is pregnant with one. I'm sure your little girl is darling. I just really love my tough, rambunctious, loud little boy. That's all.

Father's Day!
Between his two full time jobs, Adam has been working 12-14 hour days for the past couple of weeks. So I knew that he definitely deserved to be spoiled this year on Father's Day. We had discussed the possibility of getting a grill, but decided that we should just do a cheaper charcoal one instead of a gas grill. After seeing him work so dang hard, though, I decided to splurge a bit on him.
Long story short, Courtney and I got the deal of the century on it. We ended up getting the four burner grill for the three burner price. Don't worry, I was honest and told them that they had got the wrong box. But they seemed a little anxious to get us out of their hair and told us not to worry about it.
Anyway, here's the video of when we gave it to him.
And also, a big thanks to Courtney and her friend, Ben, for putting it all together for me. A box with a picture of a grill on the outside is way lamer than an assembled grill all equipped with propane and hot dogs to start the grilling right away.

Summer Fun
Isn't summer just the best best time of year? We've been having lots of fun so far this summer.
We went to an Augustana concert last Wednesday. We love Augustana and they put on a great show for us. Our ears were ringing until the next morning because we got such good spots.
Then last Thursday Courtney got in town. Kelsey was here for the weekend too. I wasn't very good at taking pictures, but I did get some good ones from our drive in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Kelsey escorted me to my friend, Katie's, wedding. It's always fun to get to see the girls from high school. They're finally starting to join the ranks as married women. I've been a lone married ranger for a few years now.
Jack got a baff at some point during the week. He's getting used to the big tub and is even starting to like it. He loves to splash, but hates when the water gets in his face. I guess that shows that he is the perfect combination of Adam and I. Adam's a splasher and I really don't like getting splashed in the face.
And Adam came home the other night to find Jack and I cozied up on the floor together. We were fast asleep. I think we would have stayed that way all night long. I would like to see how this all happened, though. I must have fallen asleep on Jack and then he just decided to join me. Or maybe he wore himself out trying to wake me up.
And finally, Jack has a new trick. Adam points at Jack with both hands and says, "You da man!" And Jack cocks his head to the side and point back. I've tried to get him to do it for me, but apparently it's just and Jack and Dad type of thing.
Sorry for the picture overload. I was reluctant to put them all into one post, but it's just easier. Especially since I had to come over to my mom's to upload the pics. Hope you enjoy them all and that you're having a good start to your summer.

Ha ha. Nerd.
The scenery was gorgeous
Wild mountainous animal of some sort

What Some Might Call Coincidences...

We have been on the receiving end of what can only be described as blessings straight from Heavenly Father. Coincidences just doesn't cut it for me. It's all too crazy for that description. To illustrate this non-coincidental chain of events, I'll make a time line for you.
April 18- It was our first day living here in Utah, when we were driving down the road and Adam spotted a Sonny Bryan's BBQ restaurant. Adam worked at a Sonny Bryan's before his mission and loves the food. We found out that it would be opening in six weeks or so and that it was the very first Sonny Bryan's outside of Texas. And it was in Sandy, the city we live in. WEIRD!
Middle of May- We've been keeping tabs on the progress of the restaurant as we drive by. One day we see that there is a number to call for employment. Adam decides to call on a whim, even though he already had a great job. The manager wants to meet with him. So we stop by and they banter back and forth about Dallas sports. She regrettably tells Adam that she already has an Assistant Manager, but that she would keep his number for future reference.
June 2- The manager calls while Adam is on his camp out saying that she wants Adam to meet the owner and that she wants him as her Assistant Manager.
June 4- Adam and I go to Sonny's and get FREE food. We meet with the owner who seems less enthused about hiring Adam because he already has an Assistant Manager.
June 8- Adam meets with someone at my brother's company about doing freelance marketing and design for them. He lands that job. Then on the way home he gets a call from the manager at Sonny's. She is ready to hire him and wants him to start immediately. So at this point he's got three jobs. Two full time, one part time/on call.
June 9- Gives two weeks at Grand America and starts working at Sonny's whenever he's not at the hotel.
June 13- Manager at Sonny's quits to go back home to Oklahoma. Adam is asked to step in as GENERAL MANAGER of the WHOLE restaurant.
It has all happened so so quickly. I'm so proud of Adam. He's such a hard worker. He's been putting in 12 and 13 hour days every day since he got the job at Sonny's. He comes home every night smelling like BBQ and loves it. Eventually there will be many many more Sonny Bryans' in the valley and so there will be a lot of opportunities to move up in the business. It's a miracle how it happened, but somehow Adam has managed to find his little piece of Dallas, TX in Sandy, UT and he couldn't be happier.
P.S. Sorry about the lack of posts. I've got lots of pictures to post, but our desktop is on the fritz and I can't find our camera cord. So I have to go over to my parent's house to upload pics. But trust me, when I get over there to do it finally, you won't be disappointed. We've had Auntie Courtney here all week and Kels was here over the weekend so there was a lot of fun being had. Also on the line up of pictures are some super cute bath time pics and some hilarious ones of Jack and I sleeping on the floor last night. Let's just say that Jack found himself a very cushy pillow.

9 Months
Jack is 9 months old. We only have a few more of these until he turns one. As always, we love him and think he's the best, cutest baby in the world.
At 9 months:
-Jack loves sitting in Adam's lap. When Adam sits on the floor Indian style, Jack comes crawling over with a sense of urgency and frantically climbs into his lap. Adam likes to tease him by dislodging him from the lap onto the floor, but Jack is persistent. He won't rest until he's in his dad's lap.
-He gives wet, open mouth kisses both on command and spontaneously.
-He copies sounds that we make. Sometimes we'll say something and he'll start trying to make the f or d sound. Today when I was taking his pictures I was trying to get his attention with his quacking duck. I kept saying, "duck, duck, duck" and he kept saying, "duh, duh, duh."
-On a similar note, he also says mama and dada. He says dada a lot more than mama, though. For a while I wasn't sure if he knew what he was saying, but then I noticed that he doesn't say dada when Adam is at work, only when he's home. So I like to think that he knows what he's saying and what it means.
-He plays hide and seek with us. Hopefully we'll get a video of this soon because it's super cute. We run away into another room and tell Jack to come find us, then call his name from our hiding spot. He comes crawling after us with a big grin on his face. He's gotten pretty good at it, but I love when he's stumped and then finally catches a glimpse of you. The face he makes is just priceless.
-He also plays peekaboo. He pulls the blanket off of your face and then tries to put it back on to do it again.
-He waves now too. This is something he's been doing for a little while, but again I wasn't sure if he knew what he was doing. But he waves at the right time a lot of the time now. He waves back at you when you wave to him. He waves bye bye when he feels like it too.
-He's dying to get up and walk. He cruises along furniture and people like a champ and can walk along with a push walker we got for him. It looks really weird to see such a little guy walking across the room. I love it.
-He's on the verge of standing independently. Sometimes he'll let go of whatever he's holding onto and stand on his own for a couple seconds then intentionally lower his little butt down. He also kneels and does a little half kneel, half stand thing.
-He loves to spin around on his bum. He sits on the kitchen floor or bathroom floor and pushes himself around in a circle with his feet
-He shakes his head, "no." He does this a lot when you offer him something to eat and he doesn't want it.
-He reaches for whoever he wants to hold him. This combined with his lack of "stranger danger" made an older lady's whole day when we were at Famous Footwear. She stopped to see him and admire him and he just reached out for her. She grabbed him and held him for a while then went about her shopping. A few minutes later he saw her and came crawling over to her reaching to be picked up. She LOVED it.
-Along with strangers at shoe stores, Jack also LOVES other babies. He can't take his eyes off them when we pass them in the grocery store. He crawls straight over to his buddy, Andrew, in Sunday School as soon as we get there. He loves playing with his older cousins. He thinks he's a big kid like them and tries to get in on the wrestling and horseplay that goes on with six grandsons. This past week he got himself into trouble, though, when he was playing with Carson and Parker in the pantry and ended up getting sat on. :)
-He loves to stick his tongue out.
-He's a tough boy. He likes to play hard and usually has a couple bumps, scrapes, and bruises to show it.

Goofy! Love that face.
He likes to squirm. I'm not sure how his face ended up in focus, but I like this picture a lot.
He's looks like he's sad, but he was just looking at the tag on his ducky
Loves to stick the tongue out

All By Myself
Adam's gone. He just got called as Priest Adviser and is away on a camp out. This song keeps popping into my head. Is that pathetic? We're rarely apart and I'm just not cut out for this. I don't know how army wives do it. I'd go crazy. At least I've got Jack Jack, though. I'm keeping a mental list of all the Jack stories I have to tell Adam when he gets back. I'd make a list of them here, but it's 1 AM and I'm having a hard time remembering any of them except for one that's a little too TMI to share on the blog. Mmmmk, I guess I'll go to sleep because as noted above it's 1 AM. Now go enjoy a little Celine in your life.

Hello Sunshine
The sun came out... finally! We've had rainy day after rainy day for far too long. So we got outside and enjoyed the sunshine these past couple of days.
Yesterday we went to Red Butte Gardens. We got in free cause of this cool city pass we bought at Tracy Aviary.
And today we went to West Jordan Park.
In other news, we just found out that Auntie Courtney is coming to visit in 9 days! Wahoo! We're starting a mental list of all the places we're going to take her. This park is a must as well as Haggerman's Bakery and possibly the Dallas Cowboys themed Sonny Bryan's if it's open. Can't wait!

Cute boys
And today we went to West Jordan Park.
Jack was a big fan of the swings.
And he rode the horsey all by himself.
He really liked crawling in the tunnel too. At one point he just sprawled out and blocked it from all the other kids that were trying to get through.
